- Sure I said "either" have a complete new chipset, then I changed it when
- you said in another post that they couldn't even develop ONE chip in that
- amount of time.. I also stated that as a posibility for naming it
- A1200+ if they never had all the chips ready.
-
- No one knows what AT are upto, they could simply be taking an off the
- shelf chipset and modifying it slightly to have Amiga modes, SURELY this
- will not take 18 months! Whatever new chips are being developed will be
- used in the Power Amiga also and they said that project is involving well
- over 12 companies which could speed up production tremendously if even 1
- or 2 of those are dedicated chip builders, AT will not be doing it
- themselves more then likely but I could be wrong but just contracting
- out to put into chips what they want!
-
- That quote (and I will see if I can find it) stating a new model with
- improved sound and graphics by March still stands out and it has been
- hushed up ever since! The only possible machine for this to go into is
- the new A1200+ since the Power Amiga is not coming out until 1997. If not
- improved graphics then AT LEAST improved sound for the A1200+

- Not enough time to take the code/registers from the existing chip and put
- them on a new chip underneath new code/registers for existing 16 bit
- sound technology on other platforms and HD floppy support? They are not
- creating this from scratch you know! I will grant this to you, it is
- highly unlikely a new graphics chipset will be put into the A1200+ as
- they would want SOME kind of major leap with the Power Amiga but I could
- see an improved Paula being added which will enable more uses on the
- A1200 and enough to call it "Plus".

-
- Obsolete? For an obsolete drive I certainly see enough of them being sold
- and HD floppy disks around.. no, 880k 3.5" DD drives are becoming
- obsolete and it is getting harder to find DD disks around. The "no
- software to support 16 bit sound for the Amiga" - my God man, that is
- what I am talking about.. adding it to the A1200+ thus software WILL
- start to be wrote for the Amiga that is 16 bit sound! Yes, 16 bit sound
- increases storage requirements thus the possibility of High Density
- drives becoming standard on the A1200+ with the option of adding an
- external HD or DD drive. Only 2 megs of chip ram on the A1200? Most of
- the PC video cards "only" have 2 MEGS of video ram also and they do fine.

-
- Please read what I am saying, I said "revealed" in March.. it has been
- promised a new model will be revealed at CEBIT in March and then shipping
- afterwards which would perhaps be between April and June so dealers and
- mailorder houses can stock up for current sales and projected Christmas
- sales.
-
- >I hope you don't take 97 to mean Jan 97. :) I'd be willing to wager big bucks

-
- There is a possibility it won't happen but were they not aiming for first
- or second quarter of 1997 for the Power Amiga which will more then likely
- mean it being revealed at CEBIT in March in '97 and shipping by June again.
-

-
- A new chipset from scratch would take 18 months, using existing
- technology and modifying it to their needs will take a lot less and with
- the tight schedule AT are on, THIS is the way I see them doing things
- for THIS new chipset for the Power Amiga or what-have-you.
-
- When you say Xmas '97, do you mean for the chipset to be finished or the
- Power Amiga to be shipped? If you are talking about the chipset being
- finished.. no way, they would miss the Xmas season for the Power Amiga's
- release, the Power Amiga has to be fully ready, revealed and marketed before
- then!
